Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man

Mark 2:1-5, 11-12

jesus-paralytic.jpg?w=1961 A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. 2 They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. 3 Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. 4 Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. 5When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

11 “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 12 He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

..:: Reflection ::..

The paralyzed man wanted to come to Jesus for physical healing, but he couldn't because of his condition, even though he has a great faith. Not until his four faithful friends brought him to Jesus that his life was forever changed. He has not only been restored to health but has been healed spiritually as well. He received more than what he had hoped for.

The man represents unnumbered people around us who are longing to be relieved of their sufferings and pains in many forms.  They've heard of Jesus as the Greatest Physician, the Great Miracle Worker, the Savior.  And yet, the way to find Him seems an impossible task.

These people don't need four friends to meet Jesus. One friend, who cares enough  to bring them to the One who is their refuge and strength, would suffice. If only we will make ourselves available for them. Like the disciple Andrew, he brings people to Jesus. It is not our part to change the hearts of men, for that task belongs to the Holy Spirit. We are only to show them the way to God.

How's your neighbor? What about your friend? Do they know about God?

each-one-reach-one.gifYou may be the only person who has been given the task to tell them about God. We cannot reach all the people and minister to them, but we can start reaching one person at a time. Unless we have a genuine love for perishing souls, we cannot in no wise labor to save them.
