Egyptian Wisdom copied from Solomon 2

The late text of the Wisdom of Amen-em-ope that post-dated Solomon by 320 years shows some resemblances with the Book of Proverbs. It is cardinal in a time when many Jews who fled to Egypt as a result of the Assyrian exile in 723 BCE were now probably fluent in Egyptian?


No Jew ever fled without their Hebrew Scriptures. They daily read these scriptures and they included the Book of Proverbs as well. For Jews to live around Egyptians in 650 for more than 73 years is like asking what influence Jews have in New York?


The following correspondences can be shown between Proverbs and the Egyptian Wisdom of Amen-em-ope:


Proverbs 22:17 is in meaning the same as Amen-em-ope Chapter I, 3:9-11; 3:16.


Proverbs 22:24 has a form and thought agreement with Amen-em-ope Chapter IX, 11:13-14.


Proverbs 22:28 compares to Amen-em-ope Chapter VI, 27:16-17 (see ANET [Pritchard, Ancient Near Eastern Texts], 422).


Proverbs 23:4-5 compares to Amen-em-ope Chapter VII, 9:14-10:5 in thoughts and in Amen-em-mope there is more midrash.


Proverbs 23:6-8 almost the same thoughts as Amen-em-ope Chapter XI, 14:5-14:10.


Proverbs 23:10 compares to Amen-em-ope Chapter VI, 7:12.


Proverbs 23:11 compares to Amen-em-ope Chapter VI, 8:10.


From Proverbs 23:12-24:10 there are no correspondences between the two sources.


Proverbs 24:11 compares to Amen-em-ope Chapter VIII, 11:6-7.


From Proverbs 24:12-22 there are no correspondences (see ANET 424 footnote 46).


Proverbs 15:17, 18 compares to the 30 Instructions of Amen-em-ope.
