잘못한 건 나인데도
Though I did it wrong

"God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant." Genesis 9:27

enlarge: 크게 하다, 확장하다, 확대하다
dwell: 거하다
servant: 하인, 종
Question 1: Japheth was to be enlarged but he would dwell in the tent of Shem. Then who was more enlarged?

b. Japheth

Question 2: Canaan is Ham’s son. Noah said Canaan should be the servant of Shem and also of Japheth. Is it not unfair to Ham’s descendants?
a. Since Ham did wrong to him, Noah wanted not only Ham but his descendants also be punished.
b. Noah foresaw, in the Holy Spirit, the future destiny of Ham’s descendants

"하나님이 야벳을 창대하게 하사 셈의 장막에 거하게 하시고 가나안은 그의 종이 되게 하시기를 원하노라 하였더라." 창세기 9:27

마치 함의 자손들이 종의 종으로 운명지어 진 것같은 표현입니다. 그러나 실제로는 함의 자손들 스스로 하나님을 거역하는 곳으로 나아갈 것이었습니다. 잘못은 사람이 했지만 하나님께서 내가 그렇게 하도록 했노라고 말씀하시는 경우가 성경에 자주 나타납니다. 바로가 강퍅한 마음으로 이스라엘 백성들을 놓아주지 않았는데도 내가 바로의 마음을 강퍅하게 했노라고 말씀하는 경우도 그 중 하나입니다. 창조주 하나님께서 사랑으로 그의 지으신 사람들을 책임지시는 마음의 표현이겠지요. 실수하여 나 딴 길로 헤매어도 늘 사랑으로 돌이켜 인도하시는 목자의 은혜를 감사하고 또 믿습니다.

It sounds as if the destiny of Ham's descendants was already fixed. However, they themselves went to the way of rebelling against God. In the Bible, we see many occasions when people did wrong but God says I caused it that way. When Pharaoh hardened his own heart and didn't release the people of Israel, God said I hardened his heart. I believe it is an expression showing God's mind to take the responsibility upon Himself as the Creator of his loving children. "Perverse and foolish oft I strayed, but yet in love He sought me." We trust in the grace of our Shepherd with thankful heart!
