Perfect character is our goal

Genesis 17:1-2
1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.

almighty: 전능한
perfect: 완전한
covenant: 계약, 언약
multiply: 증가시키다, 번식시키다
exceedingly: 매우, 몹시

Question: If God calls you, would He ask you to be blameless and perfect, too?
1) Yes, He wants every child of God to be blameless
2) No, since I am too weak, He knows I cannot be blameless

4) No, humans cannot be perfect and blameless anyway

창세기 17:1-2
1 아브람이 구십구 세 때에 여호와께서 아브람에게 나타나서 그에게 이르시되 나는 전능한 하나님이라 너는 내 앞에서 행하여 완전하라
2 내가 내 언약을 나와 너 사이에 두어 너를 크게 번성하게 하리라 하시니

우리는 모두 타락한 본성을 가지고 이 세상에 태어났습니다. "완전"이라고 하면 흔히 본성까지도 바뀌어 하나님과 같이 완전하게 되는 것을 생각하기 때문에 성경에서 이러한 말씀을 읽을 때에 사람들은 흔히 당혹해 합니다. 성경은 "죄는 불법이라"(요한1서 3:4)고 정의합니다. 우리가 이미 알고 있는 하나님의 말씀, 그의 법을 거역하고 불순종할 때에 그것이 죄라고 가르쳐 주십니다. 본질은 예수님 재림때까지 바뀌지 않을지라도 우리의 품성은 성령을 힘입어 흠없는 사람이 될 것을 하나님께서는 그의 모든 자녀에게 바라시며, 죄에 빠진 우리를 구속하신 예수님의 보혈의 능력을 의지할 때 죄가 아닌 하나님을 선택하는 삶을 살 수 있습니다. 그리스도인 완전을 바라보며 예수 그리스도의 장성한 분량에까지 자라납시다.

We were all born into this world with the fallen nature. When we read "being perfect" in the Bible, we usually think that our nature should be also perfect like God, and people easily feel perplexed. The Bible defines: "Sin is lawlessness"(1 John 3:4). Bible definition of sin is when we decide not to obey and rebel the Law of God, that is sin. Even though we may retain our fallen nature until Jesus comes, God wants every child of Him to form the blameless character by the power of the Holy Spirit. When we depend on the blood of Jesus Who came to redeem us from sin, we can live a life of choosing God and not sin. Let us grow up to the full stature of Jesus Christ, striving for the Christian perfection.
