Who said that Little Horn in Daniel 7:25 refers to Sabbath to Sunday? Adventists? No. Reformer George Joye.

Scholars thought that if they can Antiochus Epiphanes the Little Horn then they can undercut Adventists saying that Daniel 7:25 changing of the times and law is the changing of Saturday into Sunday. They thought.

But they overlooked the Reformer George Joye in his Exposition of the Book of Daniel in 1545 in the heat of the Reformation.

Look at the Title of his commentary on Daniel: The exposicion of Daniel the Prophete gathered oute of Philip Melanchton / Iohan Ecolampadius / Chonrade Pellicane & out of Iohan Draconite. &c. By George Ioye. A Prophecye diligently to be noted of al Emprowrs & Antic in these Antichrist. Do you need a translation of this Middle English? He does not have spelling problems. We have. According to him.

Who is Joye? His last name have many forms: Joye or Gee or Clerke, Georgius Ioye de Rownhall. Now did Joye like the papacy? In 1934 a book came out and the title says everything: George Joye, The subversion of Morris False Foundation whereupon he worked hard to set fast and show under his shameless shores to support the papal church. Not difficult to see on whose side he is on.

Joye translated many books of the Bible into English and was a proofreader for William Tyndale’s translation but got into trouble for changing the words of Tyndale. So he was not always right. Adventists need to know this.

But, look what Joye found on the Little Horn in Daniel 7:25 in 1545. He said in Middle English…

He chageth the tymes and nti that any of the Page  119sixe ntichrist commanded of god will make them vnholy and idle dayes when he lyste / or of their owne holy dayes abolisshed / make* ntichrist agen / & when they changed ye Saterday into Sondaye / of eting dayes fasting dayes / of mery and glad dayes to marye in / they can make sorowfull dayes ntichrist maryages. They haue changed gods nti and turned them into their owne tradiciōs to be kept aboue Gods preceptis. And as for their owne nti they will change & breke them when they lyste. And this powr shal ntichrist haue whether it be for long or shorte tyme.

That is to say in today’s English: “He changes the times and laws that any of the work days commanded of God will make them unholy and idle days when he listed or of their own holy days abolished/ make work days/ and when they changed the Saturday into Sunday/of eating days in to fast days/of merry and glad days to marry in/they can make sorrowful days forbidding marriages. They have changed God’s laws and turned them into their own tradition to be kept above God’s precepts. And as for their own laws, they will change and break them when they feel like it. And this power shall Antichrist have whether it be for long or short time.” Changing Saturday into Sunday huh? And that in 1545. The Little Horn identification by Joye. I thought it is Uriah Smith? Better think again.

Although Adventists find this Daniel 7:25 comment a delight, the rest of the book on dates and fulfillments is still a typical ‘can of worms’.
