The name Babylon was known in Sumerian as KA.DINGIR.RA.KI and in Akkadian as bab-ilu ki. In Sumerian it means, "gate of the god (city)" or "city of the gate of god". In Akkadian it means: "gate of the gods (city)" or "city of the gate of the gods". The Egyptian knew Babylon by the name barbar or brbr. Egyptians do not use an /l/ in their phonics so that linguistic sound is represented by an /r/.
