The person who has acquired the book by A. Gardiner, Egyptian Grammar (Oxford: Griffith Institute, Ashmoleum Museum, 1927, 1988), is ready to start with Egyptian language studies. The book is valuable not only because it is a grammar but it is also a dictionary.

1. Patience, patience, patience.

2. Do not expect quick solutions or quick answers.

3. Be prepared to page around a lot.

4. Use the Egyptian-English vocabulary on pages 549-604. Look up every word.

5. In the sentences, create four registers for oneself:

register 1  Hieroglypics

register 2  transliteration

register 3  literal direct translation in English word for word

register 4  Proper translation in English

6. Interspersed between the lines and around words, one will mention the paragraphs of the grammatical constructions.

7. Underline hieroglypics that are connected in a kind of phrase with a special meaning. Write the page number and paragraph number underneath it. It is good for future reference.
