Most congregations have Elementary, Middle and High School students that attend the service. They arrive at Sabbath School Time and when the Lesson is studied, they do not have a Bible, Songbook and may sleep on their arms. The following plan helped to change the situation dramatically. In this writing we have a change to report on our progress so far with this program. What we have found is that regular members (some), visitors, pastors visiting, young people for the most, flock to this corner to learn English through a religious book. And that is our prime motif: religion, not commercial schemes.

Textbook:

Purchase enough bilingual English-Korean Steps to Christ from the Korean Publishing House. Every student will receive a copy as their Text book. It will be handed out and turned back after the class.

Teaching Time

When the Sabbath School Lesson starts for everyone and they are divided into classes, the English teacher [korean or foreigner] takes his place and call all the Middle, High School and elementary school students as well as other young adults and interested persons to take their seats. Supply them with a copy of Steps to Christ.

The teaching time will be only 10-15 minutes. Then this English teacher [korean or otherwise] steps out and go and join another regular Lesson Class as student. A regular Sabbath School teacher, a young adult or pastor, then takes over the class and continues only in Korean the lesson until the end of the period.

Handout

Hand out for each one a Steps to Christ Voca Work Sheet. They need a pen or pencil. They fill in the Korean. This particular lesson is on page 16 paragraphs two and three.

Students search the Korean words in the sentences on the opposite side and the teacher asks for it. They move rapidly on through the whole list.

Reading

Read then the two paragraphs sentence by sentence. Short sentences should be memorized. Ask them to memorize it. Count down to speed them up. Reward them by saying "Ping pong".

Test

Then turn the Work Sheet over and let them write the Daily Test A.

Check the answers.

Then write the Daily Test B. Check the answers.

Thank them and step out so that another teacher can take over for the regular class. We found their enthusiasm level and motivation level has risen and the second teacher who is a Korean finds it pleasant to continue. An excellent combination of two teachers, English and Korean for the youth.

Golden Rule

Never hire a teacher to do this. It is a church not a commercial enterprise. Students should not pay nor teachers be paid for. It is worship and totally NPO. Absolutely no economic tricks in church. It is not an English Institute. It is God's Word and worship to Him. Many students may not know God and this is the purpose to lead them to God. Purchase for them a Blue Cover Bible with a Hymnal from the Korean Publishing House. Make sure they always come to church with their Bibles and their names on it.
