---In the opening part of this week’s lesson, the author dealt with the What? Why? Who? and How? of contrary passages.

---The topic is still Resurrection. But there are contrary passage used by other denominations. One cannot turn the head sideways and just continue.

---“You search the Scriptures (people do) for in them you think you have eternal life” (purpose people cling to the Word of God and they are right).

---Now the next is either the people or the scriptural passages “these are they  which testify of Me” (John 5:39). The Greek supports the passages that witness of Christ.

---This means that when the Holy Spirit as Editor packed the suitcase of the Old Testament, He placed in them highlights of the future Life of Christ in them.

---Saw a presentation using Christ and the Samaritan Woman at the well in John 4 compared to Nicodemus in John 3 last night. Very well, except all the pictures of Christ are depicting Him too old. Jesus was not 45 he was 33.

---Paul asked people to preach the Word. Word-focused. Why? “Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine”.

---Like inventing new ways e.g. women ordination. It is culture, not Scripture. Right? NAD says no it is not following culture. Other divisions says yes you do.

---There will be a time when they will invent the doctrine of independency. Each division must be independent from the others-idea. Not biblical. All are one composite part of one body. Not many bodies Paul said.

---Division “Apartheid” is not biblical. Sound doctrine under fire from within the church.

---Peter said the same. Be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you (1 Peter 3:15).

---How should one defend? Ellen White said: “Christ Himself did not suppress one word of truth, but He spoke it always in love….He was never rude, never needlessly spoke a severe word, never gave needless pain to a sensitive soul. He did not censure human weakness” (Desire of Ages 353).

---Higher Criticism was attacking the Bible as nonsense. Karl Barth as young student decided to defend the Bible. He will defend Christ.

---So Karl Barth invented a Transcendental Philosophy by making Christ the Superior One through which lenses the whole Bible should be read. Wonderful, is it not?

---It is great and many Protestant churches followed him or were influenced by him.

---But he was Liberal. He was against vegetarianism and was smoking a pipe. So much for Paul’s statement that your bodies is a living temple for the Holy Spirit.

---Point is: if you have to get rid of harmful lusts and fleshly living, surely you should also of harmful contaminants use as well.

---Karl Barth also did not believe in Satan. A fairy tale, he thought and dropped it in his discussion and theology.

---Result? A skew focus on Christ. Protestants in the late 1970’s dropped Satan but recently some are coming back to that realization of him as a player in this cosmic drama between Christ and Satan.

---Emil Brunner and Rudolph Bultman invented their Immanental Philosophy by making the human being the main focus of judging everything in the Bible, heaven and elsewhere.

---Mixing two wrong is not going to make it right.

---Culture or philosophy are not the glasses needed for the reading of the Word of God. It is the Spirit-filled life and “spiritual sensitivity” that is needed.

---Would you believe that there is a professor that is defending Rudolph Bultman as if he is a prophet, and he is teaching at our University.

---So Contrary Passages is what we need to look at his week.

---Is your Bible out? Do you start reading? Are you intending to be spiritual sensitive? Start now.
