---“The love of money, the desire for wealth, is the golden chain that binds them [people] to Satan.” —Ellen G. White, Steps to Christ, p. 44.

---The author of our lesson is not trying to teach Marxism or socialistic theories of Friedrich Engels.

---What you need to know about Engels, is that he almost said the same as Ellen White in his books, but the state was to get all the money. No God but the state.

---Secondly about Engels, the friend of Karl Marx, is that he died very, very wealthy. Did not practice what he preached.

---That is beside moral and drinking problems.

---But the desire for money can mean that people step on others in order to gain.

---In 1933 my grandfather, who was a stonemason building stone estates for the rich and the police station in my hometown, was asked to build a pastoral home for a farmer.

---The farmer had a church built on his farm and at the Lord’s Supper on Sundays people had to stay in tents and also the pastor.

---So he needed a house for them to have a basecamp for the pastor and people.

---It was a Dutch Reformed Church Calvinistic tradition.

---My grandfather finished and asked his salary from the farmer. “What salary? I cannot remember that we made a contract. Can you show me the paper?”

---My grandfather died in the meantime. My grandmother was widow to 12 children. A knock on the door. A young girl in highschool asked if she can stay with them. She has no food.

---A few days later another knock on the door. My grandfather’s debtor.

---He cried and lamented about his wrongs against my grandfather and told her that he went bankrupt and how thankful he is that my grandmother did not reject his daughter despite what happened.

---“God forgives all of us. That is important Stephen” my grandmother said.

---What do we in our wealth owe God? Tithe. Are we in debt with God but not with the world?
