아드라는 콩고와 르완다의 국경선에 위치한 고마(Goma)에서 발생한 수만 명의 난민들의 긴급 구호를 준비하고 있다. 이러한 원조는 콩고민주공화국의 북 키부 성(省)에서 일어난 폭동 이후에 계획되었다.

아드라의 긴급 구호 계획은 식품과 담요와 기타 물품으로 이 지역 내에서 피난 중인 난민들에게 공급될 것이다. 정부군과 반군 사이의 싸움은 식량 부족으로 일어난 것이며 수천 명의 주민들이 굶주림에 시달리고 있다.

"고마에서는 식품 가격이 50%나 급등했습니다. 식품을 구하기가 거의 불가능한 상태입니다."라고 고마에 있는 아드라 책임자 로메인 켄팩트가 밝혔다.

널리 퍼진 치안의 부재는 구호품과 조력자들에 대한 접근이 어려워 구호요원들에게 지속적인 염려가 되고 있다.

"상황은 아주 심각하며 사람들이 두려워하고 있습니다."라고 켄팩트는 전한다.


유엔 난민고등판무관에 의하면, 소문에 의하면 고마 북쪽 56마일 지점에 있는 루추루 마을 근처에 있는 몇 곳의 난민촌과 같은 곳에는 강탈과 방화로 적어도 적어도 50,000여 명이 생사가 불분명한 상태에 있다고 한다.

유엔은 지난 두 달 동안 250,000명이 피난을 떠남으로 콩고에는 거의 100만 명에 달하는 난민들이 생겨났다고 전했다.

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is preparing emergency relief for tens of thousands of displaced persons who fled their  homes near Goma along the border between Congo and Rwanda. The aid is coming after an outbreak of violence in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo's North Kivu province.

ADRA's emergency response will provide food, blankets and other items to internally displaced persons in the region. Fighting between government and rebel troops has caused a food scarcity and left thousands hungry.

"Food prices have soared more than 50 percent in Goma, and food is barely available for purchase," said Romain Kenfack, country director for ADRA in Goma.

Widespread security concerns continue to be a problem for aid workers, limiting access to supplies and assistance.

"The situation is very tense," Kenfack said. "People are still very much afraid."

According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the fate of at least 50,000 people remains uncertain as several refugee camps near the town of Rutshuru, 56 miles north of Goma, have been reportedly looted and burned.

Approximately 250,000 persons were displaced during the last two months, resulting in a total of nearly one million refugees in the Congo, the United Nations said.
