An Adventist High School in Mbarara, Uganda – a project;

Maha Mission has been ministering in Uganda since September 2009 beginning “Kasese”

in the west and “Lira” in the north, however, we were late in Mbarara when we started

mission work in October 2010.

“South Western Uganda Mission” (SWUF – will call as “Mbarara” Mission) is located in

a small city of Mbarara where 10 administrative district is divided again into 16 church districts.

Maha Mission began by supporting one lay evangelist (or pioneers) in this region.

Mbarara is located 265km south west of Kampala, the capitol, and shares border with;

Tanzania in east south, Rwanda in the south, Congo DR in the west, sharing the Lake Edward.

Thus, historically this region had many conflicts among these four nations in this area,

thus has resulted serious damages to poor people. In 1970s Dictator Idi Amin sacrificed many

people in this region.

Mbarara Mission covers population of 6 million, among them there are about 15,000 Adventists;

90 organized churches, 197 branches with 28 pastors, 20 of them are ordained

and only 7 of them possess BA in theology.

Maha Mission came to Africa to preach and deliver Gospel. But the situation in Mbarara is so

urgent due to no high school within the territory as the following reasons;

1. 90% of Adventists are engaged in farming; they can survive but no additional resources

    left to build schools.

2. Adventist children refuse to go to school on Sabbath, and refuse examinations on Sabbath

    thus results in disadvantages from school and government.

3. Mbarara Mission does its best to evangelize un-entered area only to face again difficulties

    because members can not send their children to school while keeping Adventist faith.

4. Presently, they have only a primary school, not a high school.

There are ways how to build high schools; maybe 1 or 2 larger and sufficiently spaced and

equipped high school classrooms. But this will require additional investment to build and

manage dormitories because most of Adventists are all scattered around the region.

Therefore, they agreed to build 4 classrooms in 5 locations as follows; 4 classrooms are

not enough, thus school will run morning and afternoon classes.

1. Mbarara   4 classrooms

2. Kikony     4 classrooms

3. Kihiihi      4 classrooms

4. Kisoro     4 classrooms

5. Kabale    4 classrooms Total 20 classrooms

Under these circumstances, what has impressed Maha missionaries are the fact the

pastors and lay leaders are all united as it has been; they will do their best what they

can do such as making bricks, getting sands and stones and all labor involved,

hence they wish to get help on timbers, cement, iron sheet for roof and nails.

Maha Mission was greatly moved, pastors and lays are cooperating and united,

doing their best whatever they can within their capability, requesting only what they cannot…

we felt deeply it is really worthwhile to help.

GWS (Global Welfare Supporters - led by retired pastor PD Chun and

Pr Chun Sik Park as secretary general: mahapark@gmail.com)

graciously accepted this plan as one of GWS 2011 project.

As we understand GWS is planning to have a special concert to this purpose at

Seoul Sanitarium Hospital Church on May 14th evening. We pray for its success.

If and when we can help build high school classrooms in 5 locations of Mbarara,

the Adventist parents can send their children to school without hindrance and prejudice,

and this can help also tremendously on our mission endeavor. At the same time, the success

of this plan will become a good model between the helper and the helped. We need your prayer.
