26 Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
27 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
28 Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
29 Ophir, Havilah and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan.
30 The region where they lived stretched from Mesha toward Sephar, in the eastern hill country.

27 하도람과 우살과 디글라와
28 오발과 아비마엘과 스바와
29 오빌과 하윌라와 요밥을 낳았으니 이들은 다 욕단의 아들이며
30 그들의 거하는 곳은 메사에서부터 스발로 가는 길의 동편 산이었더라

메사에서 스발로 가는 길의 동편 산지.... 고대 지명이기에 누구도 정확히 어디었는지 추정이 어려우나 스발은 지금의 아라비아 반도 남방의 세파르 지역이라고 생각됩니다. 메사에 대해서는 더 추정이 어려운 형편입니다. 아마도 욕단의 후손들은 아라비아 반도에 정주했다고 생각됩니다. 혹자는 이들이 동편으로 진행을 계속하여 아시아에 정착한 동양인들의 조상으로 생각합니다. 셈의 후손이었던 이들도 하나님을 섬겼을까요? 동쪽으로 가야할지 서쪽으로 가야할지보다 더 중요한 것은 우리가 그분의 인도 안에 있는가 하는 것입니다. 

From Mesha to Sephar in the eastern hill country... Nobody can exactly locate where these areas were, but it is assumed that Sephar is today's Shephar in the south of Arabia. It is more difficult to find Mesha. They think Joktan came down to Arabia and settled there. Some think they were those who moved far toward the east in Asia and became the ancestors of the Oriental races. Did they also worship God, being descendants of Shem? It is a more serious question whether we are in His guidance than whether we should go to east or west.
