For those of you who know Dr. Daegeuk Nam of Sahmyook University
Theological Seminary, he delivered today his final lecture before
retirement. His topic dealt with "The New Heaven and the New Earth Presented in the Bible". He will step down in March but I suspect he will not step out for a long time. A jewel in our midst.

Dr. Nam is a prolific translator and writer of books. A very good
Biblical Archaeology book for Theology students just came out with
color photos of the most important texts in Theological studies.

Another one that came out is on "Plants in the Bible". The list can go on.
He has a couple of them lined up.
Recently he has been struggling with a minor operation of the back
spine but seems to get slowly on top of it.
He was and is a real gatekeeper of standards of writing, of academic
standards, doctrinal standards. He is jovial, friendly, kind, open to be a listener but quick to cut short any idea that may not work.
Highly respected by his colleagues and friends and students, today was
a very special day for him.
His students sang a song for him, read a farewell letter to him, have
him a slice of cake with a knife, took pictures with flowers from female theological students and finally all staff in the church and friends took pictures with him.
Quite an occasion.

When someone retires, it only means that the cage is now left open for
the bird to fly freely to other appointments elsewhere over the globe.
The bird is still the bird, the only difference, the cage is not
locked exclusively locally.
