It is hard to conceive of the idea that God was very resourceful to people in the past about their times and how they fit into the corridor of prophetic history, but we are left with historical data and silence in the 20th and 21st century.

The grey area in SDA thinking is Daniel 11:40-45.

This diagram is taking the figurative school since 1955 (George McCready Price, Maxwell, Doukhan, Pfandl and K. Shin) and place them next to that of the literal school of interpretation by Uriah Smith.

What is then described is the result of this researcher's  investigation into the book of Daniel and history for over five years, focussed on  Daniel 11.

Caution: The ideas in this diagram is not that of the official endorsed statements of any church, neither the SDA church,  nor the webmasters of EGW.ORG on any of their affiliates, no other SDA scholar but solely the interpretation of koot van wyk. It is not wise to utilize the information to preach from pulpits as if this is the point of view of the SDA church. The official point of view about the end time is non-specific, knowing about major markers and waiting in essence for their arrival.

The official point of view leans to a figurative interpretation of the last five verses of Daniel 11.

This researcher is more in line with Uriah Smith's approach on 40-45 but not his interpretation.
