Melchizedek is a compound word of melek(king) and zedek(righteousness), which is "King of Righteousness." He was the king of Salem, and Salem means peace. Thus he was the King of Righteousness and King of Peace. He was also a priest of the Most High God. Melchizedek, a type of Christ, reappears in Psalm 110 and in the Book of Hebrews of the New Testament to explain the High-priestly ministry of the Messiah. We are deeply grateful for the privilege He gave to serve Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6), King of Righteousness (Hebrews 7:2), and the heavenly High-priest Who redeemed us from our sin.
