Did You Think to Pray?

1 Ere you left your room this morning,
Did you think to pray?
In the name of Christ our Savior,
Did you sue for loving favor,
As a shield today?

shield: 방패, 보호

Refrain:
Oh, how praying rests the weary!
Prayer will change the night to day;
So when life seems dark and dreary,
Don’t forget to pray.

weary: 피곤한
seem: ~으로 보이다
dark: 어두운
dreary: 처량한, 울적한
forget: 잊다

2 When you met with great temptation,
Did you think to pray?
By His dying love and merit,
Did you claim the Holy Spirit
As your guide and stay?

3 When your heart was filled with anger,
Did you think to pray?
Did you plead for grace, my brother,
That you might forgive another
Who had crossed your way?

plead: 변론하다, 탄원하다, 간청하다
grace: 은혜
forgive: 용서하다

4 When sore trials came upon you,
Did you think to pray?
When your soul was bowed in sorrow,
Balm of Gilead did you borrow
At the gates of day?

sore: (상처가) 아픈
trial: 시험, 시련, 고난
soul: 영혼, 넋, 마음, 생명
bow: 머리를 숙이다, 구부리다
sorrow: 슬픔
balm: 유향, 진통제
balm of Gilead: 길르앗의 유향. 예레미야 8:22
상처를 치유하는 향유인데 길르앗에 이를 생산하는 관목이 풍부 하였다.
borrow: 빌리다
