Let the Lower Lights Be Burning

1 Brightly beams our Father’s mercy
From His lighthouse evermore,
But to us He gives the keeping
Of the lights along the shore.

brightly: 밝게, 환하게
beam: 빛나다, 빛을 발하다
mercy: 자비
lighthouse: 등대
along: ... 을 따라
shore: 바닷가, 해안

Refrain:
Let the lower lights be burning!
Send a gleam across the wave!
Some poor fainting, struggling seaman
You may rescue, you may save.

lower light: 등대의 빛을 upper light 라고 한다면 lower lights 는 해안에서 배가 들어오는 항구의 길 양편을 표시해 주는 빛이다
burn: 타다, 빛을 내다
gleam: 어렴풋한 빛, 섬광
across: 가로질러서
wave: 파도, 물결
poor: 가난한, 불쌍한
faint: 약해지다, 용기를 잃다
struggle: 고투하다
seaman: 선원, 뱃사람
rescue: 구조하다, 구출하다
save: 구원하다

2 Dark the night of sin has settled,
Loud the angry billows roar;
Eager eyes are watching, longing,
For the lights along the shore.

settle: 내려앉다, 자리잡다
loud: 시끄러운
angry: 화난, 성난
billow: 큰 물결
roar: 포효하다, 노호하다
eager: 열망하는, 간절히 바라는
watch: 살펴보다, 지켜보다
long: 간절히 바라다, 열망하다
along: ...을 따라
shore: 해안, 바닷가

3 Trim your feeble lamp, my brother;
Some poor sailor, tempest-tossed,
Trying now to make the harbor,
In the darkness may be lost.

trim: 손질하다, 정돈하다, 깎아 다듬다
feeble: 약한, 미약한, 가냘픈
poor: 가난한, 가엾은
sailor: 뱃사람, 선원
tempest: 사나운 비바람
toss: 아무렇게나 던지다
tempest-tossed: 비바람에 시달린, 세파에 시달린
try: 시도하다
make: 만들다, 가다, 나아가다
make the harbor: 입항하다
darkness: 어둠
lose lost lost: 잃다
