1. I'd rather have Jesus than silver or gold;

I'd rather be His than have riches untold;

I'd rather have Jesus than houses or lands.

I'd rather be led by His nail pierced hand

 

rather: 오히려, 그보다는 …한 쪽이 낫다

untold: 말로 다 할 수 없는, 막대한

lead led led: 인도하다, 이끌다

pierce: 뚫다, 꿰뚫다. nail pierced hand 못 박히신 손

 

Chorus:

Than to be the king of a vast domain

Or be held in sin's dread sway.

I'd rather have Jesus than anything

This world affords today.

 

vast: 거대한, 광대한

domain: 영토

dread: 두려운

sway: 동요, 흔들림, 지배

afford: ...할 여유가 있다, 제공하다, 주다

 

2. I'd rather have Jesus than men's applause;

I'd rather be faithful to His dear cause;

I'd rather have Jesus than worldwide fame.

I'd rather be true to His holy name

 

applause: 박수갈채

faithful: 신실한

dear: 친애하는, 소중한

cause: 원인, 대의(大義), 큰 목적

worldwide: 세계적인

fame: 명성

 

3. He's fairer than lilies of rarest bloom;

He's sweeter than honey from out the comb;

He's all that my hungering spirit needs.

I'd rather have Jesus and let Him lead

 

fair: 고운, 아름다운, 맑게 갠, 공평한

rare: 드문, 진기한

bloom: 꽃, 활짝 핌

comb: 빗, 벌집(honeycomb)

hunger: 굶주리다, 배가 고프다, 갈망하다, 배고픔, 갈망
