이 몸의 소망 무엔가

My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less

 

1 My hope is built on nothing less

than Jesus' blood and righteousness;

I dare not trust the sweetest frame,

but wholly lean on Jesus' name.

 

blood: 피

righteousness: 의(義)

dare: 감히 ~ 하다

frame: 뼈대, 조직, 체격, 액자

wholly: 전적으로, 온전히

lean: 기대다, 의지하다

 

Refrain:

On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;

all other ground is sinking sand,

all other ground is sinking sand.

 

solid: 단단한, 견고한

sink: 가라앉다, 함몰하다

 

2 When darkness veils his lovely face,

I rest on his unchanging grace;

in every high and stormy gale,

my anchor holds within the veil.

 

veil: 휘장, 덮개, 덮다

unchanging: 변함없는

grace: 은혜

stormy: 폭풍치는, 결렬한, 험악한

gale: 폭풍, 강풍

anchor: 닻

hold: 붙들다

within the veil: 예수님께서 들어가신 하늘 성소를 일컬음

“우리가 이 소망을 가지고 있는 것은 영혼의 닻 같아서 튼튼하고 견고하여 휘장 안에 들어가나니”(히브리서 6:19).

 

3 His oath, his covenant, his blood

support me in the whelming flood;

when all around my soul gives way,

he then is all my hope and stay.

 

oath: 맹세

covenant: 언약

support: 지지하다, 유지하다

whelm: 압도하다

stay: 멈르다, 지속력, 버팀목, 지주(支柱)

 

4 When he shall come with trumpet sound,

O may I then in him be found,

dressed in his righteousness alone,

faultless to stand before the throne.

 

trumpet: 트럼펫

dress: 옷입다

faultless: 흠없는, 결점이 없는

throne: 보좌
