You may not know it but between 1852 and 1952 our church, pioneers, admin, proff, EGW and everyone taught that Christ had a "sinful flesh" when He came, fought successfully say no to Satan, overcame successfully, so that He can prove in the universe that one can be perfect [in character Ellen White said], can keep the law fully provided one taps in with Comforter II, the Holy Spirit. But then came the 1950...
Rom 8:3 was the sinful flesh text
Then Walter Martin a non SDA wrote a book on cults and wanted to classify us as a cult.
So the president of the GC changed after W. H. Branson.
He and Le Roy Froom and Andrews Dean of Theology Reebock, began to say like Calvinists that Jesus took the "sinless flesh of Adam before the Fall".
So they published Questions on Doctrine saying that in 1957.
Scholars were angry especially those who knew our 1852-1952 position very well.

Herbert Douglas, our first systematic theologian wrote the "Fork in the Road".
He was upset. They were citing in the Appendix of QOD EGW only partially.
M.E.L. Andreasen was upset and wrote a letter in 1954 to them to tell them that. The GC kept silence.
Since then there are two parties on the issue.
One will say you have to be perfect before you die.
The other says you do not have to be. No- one can be perfect.
George Knight is 2.
Douglas is 1
Why? Because Christ said be perfect for I am perfect.
EGW is 1 too.
But if you read only Steps to Christ you think she is only 2
Calvin and Luther were 2.
Armenius and Wesley were 1
Methodist churches were 1
Calvinist churches are 2
Therefore in order to bypass EGW, G. Knight suggests she was developmental/evolutionary in thinking. He wrote the Pharisees Guide to Perfection.
Touch with our Feelings by J. R. Zurcher describes all this.
Those who support women ordination pastors/elders are 2.
Those who do not are 1
So Paul says in Romans 7 that the good I want to do, I do not.
1 says  it is Saul the sinner.
2 says it is Paul the Christian, us.
1 says that 1 Tim 2:2 says that Elders be good to your wives. But wife elders cannot have wives.
2 turn the head away. Give a cold ear.
1 believes that the Bible is over culture. 2 believes that culture (modern) is over the Bible
1 believes the Bible meant and means messages predicted for our times.
2 believes the Bible only meant for its own times only and like Shakespear or a poem you must try to pull applications to us. Case by case and sometimes nothing.

So what is our church position in general today? No official statement except that all parties need to keep studying. The 2017 Handbook for Theological Ministry and Education online applies.

It says that: If a speaker is not according to the 28 Fundamentals, whether 1 or 2 and not according to the Church Manual, 1 or 2, they will be treated as a heretic and asked to resign. Desmond Ford was. D. Canright was. Holy Flesh leaders were.

Ellen White says about Holy Flesh movement around 1900, “Perfection of the flesh is impossible. Perfection of the soul is possible”.

Let me add this, because Froom et al in QOD was using Federal Calvinism (not the view of F. Nichol or W. H. Branson 1953) to define Christ nature they admitted that He took the sinful nature but just [Federal Calvinism] vicariously [not really, just fake, just outside not inside] because inside He had a sinless nature of Adam before the Fall. This is the QOD 1957 position.

What is the problem with this?

Christ is made a psychopath that tries to fake to Satan's eyes on the outside but inside He grabbed a successful overcomer so that the temptation is not real like us!

2 John 1:7  and 1 John 4:2-3 says if you deny Christ came in the flesh you are an Antichrist. Flesh? See Paul in Romans 8 for the Spirit – Flesh distinction. Right? Thanks.
Hope this is a helpful guide.
