---What
Revelation 14 teaches us are three words to remember: Gospel, Judgment,
Creation.
---We need to
know about two men that were in opposition to each other. Almost fifty years or
a century apart.
---Born in
1562 Thomas Brightman can almost be called a Reformer. Right? In 1607 he died
and in 1615 they published his commentary on Revelation.
---Below is
the source for verification link.
---Brightman
thought the way William Miller thought and the way Adventists are thinking.
That is how he read his Bible.
---Problem?
He lived two hundred years before the end of the 2300 years so he missed some
great historical events.
---But his
recipe was correct. The ingredients were all correct.
---The one
who rejected him should be mentioned now. It is Henry Hammond, the handsome
young good preacher from Oxford in 1652. Also wrote Paraphrases and Annotations
on Revelation. But, he rejected the ideas of Thomas Brightman.
---Why is he
rejecting Brightman? Because Brightman found the papacy to be the Antichrist of
Revelation 13 and elsewhere in Revelation.
---He did not
like it. Hugo Grotius of Amsterdam also were reaching out to the papacy and was
called by the conservative Calvinists in Holland a papist. So Hammond liked
Grotius and defended him and also became a so-called papist that suppressed the
ID of the papacy in Revelation 13.
---Does it
ring a bell at Loma Linda University recently?
---They
called it the Eirene-syndrome. “Peace with the enemy- syndrome”. Even if the
enemy is the devil or the Antichrist.
---Welcome to
Hammond, Grotius and ….some at Loma Linda University. Or Adventist Today. Right?
---They felt
that the Reformers were too outspoken about differences with the papacy and
that maybe, for the sake of peace and tranquility, one should tone down the
rhetoric. “It can be dangerous” a Loma Linda University professor wrote to me
in an e-mail two years ago.
---So there
was Brightman in the 1615 Revelation commentary.
---He came to
Revelation 14. He made a long list of the church fathers like Basil and
Augustine and others and said that although they wrote many books for the church
they are not pure.
---Pure is
the Waldensis and Albigensis for him.
---Pure is
John Wycliffe and John Huss. Brightman thinks very similar to Great Controversy by Ellen White.
---Was
Wycliffe not called the “Morning Star” of the Reformation in Great Controversy?
---What about
Thomas Aquinas and Augustine or Basil? Not important says Brightman in 1615 and
Ellen White in 1898. Very important says John Calvin, Henry Hammond and Hugo
Grotius. And of course the Synod of Dortrecht in 1618 with the Heidelberg Catechism
of Calvinism.
---Brightman
thought that the first angel of Revelation 14 is John Wycliff. The Second Angel
was John Huss and the third one was Martin Luther.
It is not a
bad guess for someone who lived two hundred years away from the full truth in
1844. Right? If he lived in the days of William Miller…he was William Miller II.
I think. He has his fundamentals correct.
---So
Ecumenism has the Eirene-syndrome as ingredient in its recipe.
---Is anyone
in your church playing overtures of erasing vicarius
filii dei from Revelation 13 like A. Rodriquez and his friends? It is a big
problem. Right?
---Brightman
felt that the gospel was salvation by Christ only and that this must be
preached at the end time to the whole world and to the whore or papacy who’s
eyes is supposed to open and listen to the heavenly truth (Brightman, 1615 page
396).
