Modern man do not have time to read the Bible. If there is time, there are too many distractions. So finally the reading of the Bible becomes marginal. One way of damage control is to provide the readers with a template and worksheet to fill in. This sheet is about the book of Romans. All the spaces are numbered and one should go from number to number and complete the template. This template one can keep at hand in reading Romans.

1. Paul's life was marked by reasoning with Jews, Greek godfearers and Gentiles. The book of Romans also display various audiences. One must be aware of these.

2. The trilogy 9-11 is addressed to Jews. The rest is to Jews, Christians and Gentiles.

3. The problem of 7 is solved in 8.

4. Chapters 8, 6 and 5 are strongly interconnected.

5. The question of the status of the heathen before God is dealt with in chapter 2 but that responsibility is given to the Holy Spirit who writes and touches the minds and conscience of mankind.

6. Chapters 12-16 is a commentary.

7. Chapters 1-8 deals with doctrinal matters.

8. Churches are divided whether 7:14-25 refers to the regenerated Paul or the unbeliever Saul. LaRondelle, Augustine, Delitzsch, Hodge, Kümmel, Calvin, Luther, Owen says it is Paul. Chrystostom, R. Gundry, Bengel, De Wette, Neander, Hengstenberg, Armenius, Stuart, Müller says it is Saul.

The consciousness of sin is not always equal to acts of sin. Even if the regenerated sinner is saved, the memory still haunts the person and give him/her a feeling of sinfulness and this consciousness does not mean the person is doing wrongful things. In fact, chapters 6 and 8 highlights the role of sanctification and the process of a life with the Spirit which leads to victory.

9. The Christian and politics or government and faith is dealt with in chapter 13.
