Unknown known = Laodicea State
Rumsfeld made a statement on the 12th
of February 2002 that became very famous for mentioning three sets of known: known known
known unknown unknown unknowns But then on the 23rd of February 2009
the Psychoanalytic philosopher Slavoj Žižek says that beyond these three
categories there is a fourth, the unknown known, that which we intentionally
refuse to acknowledge that we know. known known
known unknown unknown unknowns unknown known Rumsfeld named his autobiography Known and
Unknown: A Memoir. The Unknown Known is the title of Errol Morris's 2013
biographical documentary film about Rumsfeld. This is all from Wikipaedia cited below in the
source. To make sense of these four concepts one can
explain it in biblical terms as follows: known known (Revelation of the Bible) known unknown
(We do not know how God will pave the way today or tomorrow) unknown unknowns
(startling surprise events or accidents) unknown known refuse to see (Laodicea state in
Revelation 3:15-18) That Saturday is not the Sabbath but that it is Sunday
considered to be that. It is a psychological rationalization of a wrong known
to be wrong. Selfdeception. Actually, Slavoj Žižek was not the first to
mention this last aspect. In 1955 it was mentioned by two American
psychologists, Joseph Luft (1916–2014) and Harrington Ingham (1916–1995) in
their development of the Johari window. Unknown unknowns. People know the truth but they choose to be in a
condition of “unknown”. People know what is right, but they go their way
and lifestyle of denying God. They know Saturday is the Sabbath of the Lord
but they work on it. They know that one should not eat mice, pork or
the list of Leviticus 11 foods, including Tuna (contra Orthodox Jewish views
here) but they do it anyway. God has given His wishes to us in the biblical
text spelled out by many authors and lived out by millions of believers, but
still there are those who choose the unknown known option of denial, rejection,
rebellion, refusal, ignoring. They wish to pave the way to selfdestruction. The
ultimate course to the final Hell extinction. That when the love of God
provides so much for the future and eternity.
