Guide to the use of Gardiner's Middle Egyptian Grammar

The person who has acquired the book by A. Gardiner, Egyptian Grammar (Oxford: Griffith Institute, Ashmoleum Museum, 1927, 1988), is ready to start with Egyptian language studies. The book is valuable not only because it is a grammar but it is also a dictionary.
1. Patience, patience, patience.
2. Do not expect quick solutions or quick answers.
3. Be prepared to page around a lot.
4. Use the Egyptian-English vocabulary on pages 549-604. Look up every word.
5. In the sentences, create four registers for oneself:
register 1 Hieroglypics
register 2 transliteration
register 3 literal direct translation in English word for word
register 4 Proper translation in English
6. Interspersed between the lines and around words, one will mention the paragraphs of the grammatical constructions.
7. Underline hieroglypics that are connected in a kind of phrase with a special meaning. Write the page number and paragraph number underneath it. It is good for future reference.
