---Psalm 68:18
is used by Paul to depict also in 1-2 and 35 gifts. ---So who is in
mind here? ---Ellen White
gives the answer: “Christ ascended on high, leading captivity captive, and gave
gifts unto men. When, after Christ’s ascension, the Spirit came down as
promised, like a rushing, mighty wind, filling the whole place where the
disciples were assembled, what was the effect? Thousands were converted in a
day.”—Ellen G. White, Ye Shall Receive
Power, p. 158 ---This is the
most likely explanation for the passage. ---Paul is
explaining the same in Ephesians “However,
he has given each one of us a special gift through the generosity of Christ.
That is why the Scriptures say, ‘When he ascended to the heights, he led a
crowd of captives and gave gifts to his people.’ “Notice that it says ‘he
ascended.’ This clearly means that Christ also descended to our lowly world.
And the same one who descended is the one who ascended higher than all the
heavens, so that he might fill the entire universe with himself” (Eph. 4:7–10). ---To lead a
crowd of captives is the bringing together of thousands on Pentecost. Giving
gifts to His people was the gifts of the Holy Spirit of speaking and healing
for the sake of evangelism. ---The Holy
Spirit “filling” is a signal or token of what is to come in completeness in
future. ---Christ’s
Lordship will finally be all over the whole universe the main topic forever. ---The success
of the Holy Spirit changing pagans into believers is a led free of captives by
Satan and actually a putting Satan into captive and losing. ---This Psalm 68
is eschatological and in www.egw.org there is
a complete treatment of the Psalm and its meanings http://www.egw.org/zboard/331672 ---Do not miss
the prophetic charts unpacked in this Psalm and how language used in Habakkuk,
Joel, Isaiah is utilized. ---After considering
all evidence and data in this Psalm, the multiple connections to Isaiah both
linguistically (Akkadianisms and Phoenicianisms) plus the content, makes me
decide that David wrote this Psalm with a very developed understanding of
eschatology. In fact, the same Holy Spirit that made sure that every generation
understand the prophetic charts also gave Isaiah, Joel and Habakkuk the same
visions and message. ---To see the
connection with exegesis and Ellen White of Psalm 68 do the following. ---Latter and
Early Rains are mentioned in 68:10a: “Rain of abundance will You pour down O
God, Your inheritance”. ---In Joel 2:23
the same word appear as here [geshem] divided in two time zone deliveries
promised: geshem moreh which is early rain and [geshem] malqosh which is latter
rain. ---Figuratively,
the Holy Spirit outpourings at Pentacost for the Early Rain and we are waiting
right now for the soon outpouring of the Latter Rain Holy Spirit experience. ---“He that is
weary [of waiting so long because of the delay of the coming of the Lord] You
confirm it” (68:10c). ---One cannot
translate “Your inheritance was weary” because there is a “and” before weary and
it reads literally: “Your inheritance and he that is weary.” ---How to one
ignore the copulative that separates what is before from what follows it? ---We simply
stop the phrase before the “and” by making the “and” the beginning of a next
phrase. ---One cannot bulldoze
over the syntax of the original with modern ideas. ---Nice correct?
