---Paul is using
seven “ones” here. Body and Spirit is one. 1+1. A Trinity blessing. ---Paul is
mixing the recipe of a good Christian life here with all the good sauces you
can find. ---The best
sauce for spiritual food is….well hunger. ---So every now
and then Paul uses the word agape=Godly love. Whatever he is going to expect or
say, it is connected to this word. You need it. ---It is the 1
Corinthians 13 fabric. The thread is weaved through the tapestry. ---The engine
part of Paul in this chapter requires agape love. ---Then he says
also that the church is one (4:12, 16) in the one Spirit (4:4). ---The Holy
Spirit is brought in at every corner. A necessary component. ---Love and the
Holy Spirit. The Father is agape and gave Christ as savior to us. ---“one Lord” (a
reference to Christ). ---“one faith”
(meaning the content of what Christians believe, Eph. 4:13. ---“one baptism”
(compare Eph. 5:26). ---“one God and
Father of all, who is over all and through all, and in all” (Eph. 4:6). ---Paul is not
talking about pantheism with God
inside nature view. ---Or with panentheism with nature caught up in His
being not exhausting it at all. ---He does
believe that God is transcendent to
our nature, loose from it. ---He does
believe in immanence through the
Spirit that He can connect with humans and by cooperation great things can be
done and achieved. ---In fact
cooperation is required. There is no salvation or success without cooperation. ---Paul
advocates a growth, a movement, nothing static, a transformation not by oneself
only, but with the essential ingredient the help of the Holy Spirit. ---Convicts,
blames, fix, praise, convicts, blames, fix, praise. For every fruit of the
Spirit there will be trials and temptations necessary to strengthen the
character until all come to the completeness that is in Christ unto a perfect
man. ---Have you ever
wondered why Paul is writing so difficult? Peter said it. Well he is doing it
because it was the common popular style of Jurisprudence in those days. They
loved long disputes and discussions and the public use to sit for hours
listening to it. ---The rhetoric
had patterns and Paul is knows them. So is his learned scribes writing by his
dictation to them in jail. Now you know why Paul is always talking difficult
rather than normal.
