---Ephesians 5 is Paul unpacking about
living a sanctified life. ---He asked for a proper navigation. Walk
properly. ---For proper eating and drinking habits. [Ephesians
5:18] ---For avoiding wrong places and wrong
entertainments. ---Avoid all sexual enticements of all
kinds. Period. Stay away. Walk away. ---They have to reprove the unfruitful
works of darkness. [Ephesians 5:11] ---There is a list of no-heaven people:
[Ephesians 5:5] no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, idolater. ---Body cleanness, mind cleanness, soul
cleanness. SQ and IQ and EQ must function properly. ---Let us say the intellectual IQ is fine,
the Emotional life is find EQ but the spiritual life is horrible (SQ). That
life is in ruins. ---Smoking is a killing habit. It is the
same as jumping from a high building. It just takes longer. That is what a
minus SQ life do to the IQ and EQ of people. ---Paul knows it very well and chapter 5
is elaborating on this. ---Not talking irresponsible: Neither
filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting (Ephesians 5:4). ---Think about it, Pliny the Younger had
500 slaves (Carcopino page 70 source: https://archive.org/stream/dailylifeinancie035465mbp/dailylifeinancie035465mbp_djvu.txt ---Outside of Rome the Middle classes
still knew the value of work but inside Rome the people lost all confidence of
it (page 74). ---“Having given up the habit of
controlling their children, they let the children govern them, and took pleasure
in bleeding themselves white to gratify the expensive whims of their offspring”
p. 79. Permissiveness. ---“Revisiting
the arenas of Rome after nearly two thousand years of Christianity, we feel as
if we were descending into the Hades of antiquity. The amphitheatre demands
more than reproach. It is beyond our understanding that the Roman people should
have made the human sacrifice, the munus, a festival joyously celebrated by the
whole city, or come to prefer above all other entertainment the slaughter of
men armed to kill and be killed for their amusement.” (P. 231) ---There were large scale of slaughter of
animals for shows in Titus and Trajan time. “5,000 beasts were killed in one
day of the munera with which Titus inaugurated the Colosseum in 80 A.D.; 2,246
and 443 in two munera of Trajan” (p. 239). ---Entertainment was popular in Rome. ---And with us? Do we not see all these on
www.youtube.com? Good morning.
---It is time to read Paul carefully and
adjust ourselves accordingly. Correct?
