The pastor
[prof. Cho who is the past Department Head of Music at Sahmyook University]
is discussing Psalm 81:1-5. In this Psalm God is directly talking to us in vv.
6-16. The Lord is
remembering how He dealt with Joseph, with the basket [Moses] with Israel His
selected remnant through the movement in the desert [Meriba]. Notice that the
song is sung on a festival day. Verse 3. Does this mean
that the school music can borrow their songs from Yonsei Baptist Church or
Presbyterian Churches for a “new Mars Music style for the new generations”? They can, but
it will be a dead end street for future. Why? There is Joseph’s music in Moses’
time and in the author of Psalm 81 as well. The Korean
schools can learn from Fountainview Academy in Canada as to how to sing to the
future of Adventism properly. Why do our
musicians not modify or adapt our own Song in the Hymnal for the kindergartens,
elementary schools and Highschools? Why does it have a K-pop and J-pop (Musume)
style? Meaning, the Holy Spirit will lead the way. If old people
and young people cannot sit in the same venue of worship, something is not
right and if the old people did not create it, then the young people need to do
homework. Right? God wants
babies, young people, old people all together worshipping Him together. The
same Spirit leads all and all should be enjoyed. Right? Go back to the
Psalm 81. All generations from Joseph, Moses to Asaph much later can sing the same
songs and same style. Right? Prof. Cho of
Sahmyook University just wrote a nice book on Church Music.
